What is the essence of urban studies?

Urban development is not a one-way street, leading to an ideal solution. Changes in the structure (for example, the revival or crisis of the economic sectors, the change of social ideals or environmental problems) require the adaptation of the system of goals and development strategies. In addition, the transformation of infrastructure and strong management intervention in the planning process have a significant impact on the dynamics and trends of development.

The change in the urban environment usually has a long, evolutionary character, but sometimes situations develop, sometimes dramatic, which become turning points. How can planning be combined with the natural life cycles of cities and regions – this is perhaps the main issue of urban studies.

Urban planning is the theory and practice of planning and building cities.

The social system, the level of development of industry, science and culture, natural and climatic conditions, national characteristics of the country – all this affects urban planning, the appearance of cities. When planning a new city, architects should solve the problems of socio-economic, construction equipment, architecture, hygiene, transport, delivery of electricity, water, gas to the city and many others. Under socialism, state planning of the national economy creates all the conditions for the scientifically based development of cities adapted for labor, recreation, and the lives of millions of people.

The main tasks of modern urban development are the creation of towns and villages that have an individual appearance, the solution of urban environmental problems, overcoming the monotony of a typical building, the preservation and scientifically based reconstruction of old city centers, careful preservation and restoration of cultural monuments, their combination with modern buildings.

The theory of urban planning studies the planning organization of settlement systems and places, the features of their formation, functioning and development in interrelation with socio-economic and natural conditions.

Architecture, society, and the whole human civilization has undergone a lot of transformations since ancient times. It was directed directly at the person, the “supreme”, and the society, following and “obeying” all those beliefs and trends that dictated the vector of development of any spheres of life. All these directions were so diverse that it is impossible not to notice the changes in the external appearance of the entire human civilization as a whole. From the simplest primitive society to the highly developed information, thoroughly permeated with technology, a huge leap was made. We have advanced very far in development thanks to the scientific and technological and information revolution, thanks to scientists and thinkers, but much has been lost.
